20 DEAD INCLUDING 2 ARMY OFFICIALS IN MAJOR FIRE AT PULGAON, ARMY’S BIGGEST AMMUNITION DEPOT

News of major fire at the Central Ammunition Depot in Pulgaon, Wardha district in Maharashtra has just broken. According to various news reports, at least 20 people are killed that includes two Army officials. There were several jawans who were injured in the blaze, some of them are critical, an Army officer said.

Sources in the ammo depot told news agencies that the area has been cordoned off and nobody is being allowed to enter the premises. Residents of nearby villages have been evacuated and Army helicopters have been pressed into service to help in the evacuation of the injured security personnel. The Pulgaon central ammunition depot is one of India’s biggest ammunition depots and is located around 110 km from Nagpur. It recently got an award for using solar energy for the disposing of expired ammunition.

MoS Defence, Rao Inderjit, speaking to the media, said, “We are ascertaining the facts under which circumstances it occurred.”

The SIT is constituted of the Union Defence ministry and Union Minister of Defence Manohar Parrikar is going to Pulgaon to visit the site of accident.

Army Chief General Dalbir Singh left, as the details of incident surfaced, for Pulgaon.

Jitendra Singh, MoS PMO termed it as an unfortunate incident. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis informed the media that his government is providing whatever assistance and resources that may be required, primarily medical. He further added that it is an unfortunate incident, accompanied by a huge loss of lives and property. He told reporters that he has directed district officials to extend whatever help possible. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences for the bereaved families and informed that he has asked the Defence Minister to visit the site.

Virat Kohli is CEAT T20 Player of the Year; Shashtri wants him as Captain for all 3 formats!

R Ashwin won the CEAT International Bowler of the Year award while Rohit Sharma was named as Indian Cricketer of the Year.

Thundering batsman Virat Kohli on Monday was named CEAT T20 Player of the Year. In the recently concluded IPL tournament, Kohli had a dream run and grabbed the orange cap with 973 runs in his kitty.

In a glittering function held at Mumbai, former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award that was attended by several past and present players in Mumbai.

English batsman Joe Root was named both as the CEAT International Cricketer and Batsman of the Year. R Ashwin, the Indian off-spinner, won the CEAT International Bowler of the Year award whereas Rohit Sharma was named as the Indian Cricketer of the Year. Virat Kohli has been in his best form in the shortest format recently, as he was also named the Player of the Tournament in the World T20 held in India earlier this year.

Retired Aussie Cricketer Mathew Hayden said that Virat Kohli is a special blend of consistency and power, presence of mind, and passion for the game. Ashwin said that Kohli is a 'thorough and honest' captain. But it was former India team director and all-rounder Ravi Shastri who said that Virat Kohli is ready to take over the captaincy from MS Dhoni across all formats, and it is the right time to make the switch "in the interest of Indian cricket."

It is to be noted here that Kohli already leads the Indian Test Team, from which Dhoni has retired, but Dhoni still leads in the shorter formats. In the coming days, India will play a lot more Tests than limited-overs cricket, and Shastri said "the gaps" in play for Dhoni will be hard on him. The former director said he would "definitely be thinking" of naming Kohli captain across formats if he were a selector. "I definitely think Kohli should be given the job across formats," Shastri told India Today Television. "You have to see where India is going to go three years down the line. There are no major events till about three years down the line when you are back with the World Cup. So, this is your best time to think and build."

"India play hardly any one-day cricket if you see the next 18 months-two years, and the gaps between Tests and ODIs are massive. So, here's your time to look ahead and see what you can do with an Indian side all-round three years down the line. If I am the chairman of selectors, I would be thinking in that direction, no question about it."

Smokers know and realize the risks; stop preaching, support them to gradually kick the habit!!

Today being "World No Tobacco Day " which is an annual event to persuade people and raise awareness to not to consume tobacco in any form, special articles are bombarded on how to get rid of tobacco consumption with loads of tips. Usually the articles on such days talk about: i] tobacco is really bad for health, ii] companies dealing in tobacco are bad, ii] those who smuggle are very bad. :o

Well, if you ask me none of such information is new and anybody who consumes tobacco in any form is already well aware of the facts. The reality is majority or I should say that almost every tobacco consumer knows the above stated facts so well that either they simply don’t care or chose alternative ways to do a 'health balance'.

There have seen so many people around me who are literally chain smokers for years and there wasn’t a single day that they weren’t aware that tobacco was bad, that tobacco companies were bad.

Governments, tobacco products’ producing companies, activists, doctors, friends and family keep on ranting about the negative impact of tobacco consumption but very few sit down with the tobacco consumer about his/her reason for excessive usage and whether s/he suggests or thinks of a way out from the habit. Come on, it takes time to leave a habit, that too when it comes to addictions.

If you really want your loved one to quit tobacco consumption in any form then today, on World No Tobacco Day, take out time, sit with them, talk your heart out, devote all your senses (ear, nose, eyes, skin) to them and listen to them patiently. May be they are also fighting to get rid of the habit but our ridiculous ranting has distanced them from us and themselves. Can we allow a day for them to be themselves and ease their nerves? Trust me, if this approach can help even hundred people across globe, this World No Tobacco Day will be one of the most successful one ever.

Let a tobacco consumer leave the habit by himself / herself.

And my dear people (those who consume tobacco) just look around you, there’s literally no pretence of protecting other people anymore. It’s about making your life miserable. And now these horrible packaging with 85% pictorial warning and those nonsensical bans on outdoor smoking and above all the amount of money that goes in smoke, share your heart today with your loved one and give a try. Possibly a small step today can bring in a big change tomorrow.

Just want to remind that no battle has ever been won alone, you need backing, you need people, and you need your loved ones to win one.

Let’s all join hands so that our loved one come out as winners; winners of life.
