24 killed, 124 arrested as ‘armed volunteers’ of a sect attack Police team that went for recce!

The land of Krishna is in news that too for all the wrong reasons as armed volunteers of a sect attacked police that went for recce as a part of the drive to evict illegal occupants of a land in Mathura district, killing 24 including two police officers.

SP City Mukul Dwivedi and SHO, Farah, Santosh Yadav along with 22 others have been killed in yesterday’s violence.

The incident took place on Thursday when a policed team was attacked by a group that pelted stones and opened fire at the police officers. In retaliation, the police had to fire when batons and tear gas could not control the situation. The violence had erupted when police were trying to evict illegal occupants, believed to be of, from Jawahar Bagh on Thursday on the directions of the Allahabad high court.
It is believed that the attackers who call themselves to be volunteers belong to Swadheen Bharat Subhash Sena (SBSS) and Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi groups. The clashes broke out when police were trying to evict illegal occupants of a land in Jawahar Bagh by activists, believed to be of, on the directions of the Allahabad High Court.

As per news reports over two years ago, advocates of splinter group of Baba Jai Gurudeo, claiming themselves to be member of 'Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi', had illegally occupied hundreds of acres of land of Jawahar Bagh on the pretext of 'dharna'. The 260-acre park is valued in crores of rupees.
Claiming to be followers of freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose, the hooligan protesters demanded "cancellation" of election of President and Prime Minister of India, replacement of existing currency with 'Azad Hind Fauj' currency, sale of diesel at the rate of 60 litres for one rupee and petrol at the rate of 40 litres for one rupee.

UP Police has identified one of the group's leaders, Ram Vriksha Yadav and investigating further information about him or his associates.
A magisterial probe has also been ordered and 124 people have been arrested for questioning.

UP government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh each for the families of the martyred policemen.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has reviewed the in Mathura.

"I have spoken to the chief minister of Uttar Pardesh and reviewed the situation in Mathura. I have assured him of all possible help from the Centre. I am anguished over the loss of lives in the incident in Mathura. May God give strength to the bereaved families," Rajnath Singh said.
