The battle that began with the selection and participation process in the Rio Olympics resulted in a tie when honourable High Court dismissed Sushil Kumar’s plea for a trial between him and Narsingh Yadav.
Narsingh Yadav will be India’s sole 74-kg wrestling representative at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Sushil Kumar is widely respected and adored, but the way this whole episode took place, Kumar somewhere was found to be in the wrong. Kumar and his supporters’ biggest mistake was to go for a legal option to settle the affair.
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is yards away from Jantar Mantar, ‘the temple of dharna’. His team lacked that shrewd vision to gain limelight and to make an impactful campaign to present his case and win a ticket to the Rio Olympics.
Sushil Kumar, as his name suggests, is quite the gentleman and before taking the legal course, he must have thought long and hard several times. There is a huge possibility that his closed aides had advised him to ask HC to intervene in the matter.
Had Sushil Kumar and his supporters allowed him space to project and convey his points loud and clear on a mass platform, they would have gained peoples’ sympathy too.
As the matter went to court, named and famed celebrities could not come out in open to support him, publicly.
As for Narsingh Yadav, he can finally now concentrate on his training as the legal battle is over. Yadav realises that all the focus will be on his performance, especially after this whole embittered tussle between him and Kumar over representation in Rio Olympics. People remember Yadav more because that he is the one who blocked two time Olympian Sushil Kumar’s participation than because of his own merits.
Only times will tell how this whole incident shapes the careers of both wrestlers, but as of now, Sushil Kumar appears to be on the losing side. For Yadav, on the other hand, a bad result could lead to a unenviable impact on his career.
We wish both the wrestlers best for their professional life and are expecting Narsingh Yadav to recreate Sushil Kumar’s magic in the Olympic rings.
