Life can be so bizarre at times. As per news reports, a Swedish footballer was sent off during a football match. And the reason was the player was shown two yellow cards by the match referee for farting, who termed it as “deliberate provocation” and “unsportsmanlike behaviour”.
The player, Pershagen SK defender Adam Lindin Ljungkvist, has expressed his outrage at the absurd decision. “I had a bad stomach, so I simply let go,” the 25-year-old told Swedish newspaper Lanstidningen Sodertalje.
In the match against Jarna SK’s reserve team in a seventh-tier football league of the country, Ljungkvist was playing as a left-back for his team.
The Swedish newspaper reported that the referee, Dany Kako, confirmed that Ljungkvist had received the second yellow and then a red card and explained that: “I perceived it as deliberate provocation. He did it on purpose and it was inappropriate. Therefore, he received a yellow card.”
Kako said he has experienced similar incidents in a football match before. “Once there was a player who stood and peed next to the pitch. I showed him a yellow card, too.”
If you are going to play football, then keep your stomach wind free… (*wink wink*)
